More than half of the world’s population resides in urban areas. These areas have higher-than-average levels of air pollution, which is linked to seven million premature deaths worldwide each year. Green Heart Louisville is testing the connections between a green environment and human health by studying how the tree canopy affects air quality, heart health, risk of developing diabetes and obesity, and other aspects of human health.

Over the next few years, Green Heart Louisville is planting thousands of trees to create a robust and sustainable ecosystem maximized to reduce air pollution. The project’s researchers are monitoring changes in pollution, physical and mental health, and social interaction in relation to the increased vegetation.

Your gift will enable Green Heart Louisville to develop new approaches to human health, increasing the understanding that clean air, water, and soil are keys to the health of all life.
